Age Regression Hypnotherapy · Charlotte & Lake Norman

You heard it come out in your own voice.

The sentence, or the tone underneath it, that you promised yourself you would never use. You caught it as it left you. And for a second you were not the adult in the room — you were much younger, in a much older kitchen, on the receiving end of it.

It passes. You carry on with the evening. But you have noticed by now that certain reactions arrive with a force that has nothing to do with what is actually happening. A phone call from your mother that leaves you braced for the rest of the day. A particular silence at a family table that you read instantly, the way you learned to read it long before you could have explained what you were reading.

You are not confused about your own history. You have thought about it a great deal, probably more than anyone around you knows. You can name what happened and what it did.

You can understand where a reaction may come from and still find yourself having it. Age regression hypnotherapy is one way of exploring that gap experientially, rather than asking you to explain it again.

Some of what you do in a room is not a decision you make there. It behaves more like a rule — one you never agreed to and would not defend if anyone asked you to.

You may recognise a few of these. Not as things you believe, but as things you do before believing enters into it.

  • Don't ask for too much.
  • Keep the peace.
  • Read the mood before you say what you want.
  • Brace for the withdrawal.
  • Don't take up more room than you are given.
  • Don't trust the closeness all the way.

You may have a good idea where some of these came from. Others may simply feel familiar, with nothing attached to them. Exploring what happens for you now does not require either of us to decide in advance where it started.

What you can usually locate is when it shows up. A partner going quiet in a particular way. A daughter needing something at the wrong moment. A family gathering where the seating has not changed in thirty years.

This is not reliving anything. That is the first thing most people need to hear, and it is worth saying plainly rather than reassuringly.

You do not go under. You are not moved backward through painful material with no say in it. You remain aware throughout — able to speak, to describe what is happening while it happens, to pause, to stop. What the hypnotic process gives us is a focused way to stay with the feelings, associations, images, or recollections connected to what you came to look at, instead of moving straight to explaining them.

And you do not need to arrive with a clear memory. That matters, because a lot of people assume they are disqualified by not having one. What you notice may not take the form of an autobiographical memory at all.

A feeling with nothing attached to it, arriving whole.

A sudden certainty about something, without evidence for it.

An image or impression of a setting — its quiet, its temperature, who was in it.

Something your body does before you have registered why.

You stay present the whole way through.

Nothing here depends
on losing control.

We begin with something happening now. A reaction, a feeling, a situation that keeps repeating, a way of responding you want to understand differently — where it shows up, who is usually in the room, what happens in your body just before it takes over.

In hypnosis I guide you to stay with that experience rather than immediately explaining it, which is the part you have already done at length on your own. You may notice emotions, physical sensations, associations, images, thoughts, or memories. Sometimes an earlier experience feels relevant and the session moves there. Sometimes the work stays much closer to the present.

When earlier material does arise, we can explore what you needed then, what you believed, what you feared, what you concluded — and how you relate to that now, at this distance, with everything you have since become.

Sessions are in person by appointment in Cornelius, or privately by Zoom from your own home — no office to be seen walking into, and no appointment that needs explaining to anyone. A written summary follows afterward, so none of it depends on what you happen to remember correctly a week later.

Understanding can change a great deal. You may have made sense of your family, worked out where the patterns came from, built boundaries that did not exist before, and become far more aware of what happens in particular relationships. Much of that came from real work, and it held.

And there may still be moments when the reaction arrives faster, or harder, than you would like. You can trace exactly where bracing for the withdrawal came from, describe the room you learned it in, and still find yourself braced on a Tuesday evening before anything has actually happened.

Age regression offers an experiential way of exploring those moments. It does not ask you to discard what you already understand, or to treat insight as though it failed you.

Age regression sits within the Transpersonal category and can serve as a gateway into container work. The consultation and assessment establish the appropriate scope. Age regression is one route among several. Which one fits depends on the question you are actually bringing, and that is worth settling before anything is booked rather than after.

When the question is about who you are now

If what concerns you is how you relate to yourself — how much of you goes missing in certain rooms — that belongs with work on self and identity.

When the question concerns a specific period

If what you want is to look at a particular time, event, or gap in what you can recall, hypnosis for memory retrieval approaches that question differently.

When the question is explicitly transpersonal

If what you want to explore is spiritual in nature — past-life or interlife material, or something you encountered in another practice — that belongs within transpersonal hypnotherapy.

Age regression is not the right starting point for every person or every concern, and that is worth saying before you decide rather than discovering it afterward.

This work asks for the stability to engage focused experiential work. It is not appropriate during active clinical crisis, with untreated severe psychiatric conditions, or with active addiction that has not been stabilised first. If that is where you are, this is not the right starting point, and I will say so rather than take a booking.

Send a private note describing the reaction you keep running into, in your own words. Nothing about sending it obliges you to book anything.

The consultation is a short conversation before anything is scheduled. We talk about what keeps happening, what you have already tried, and whether this is the right kind of session for what you want help with. There is no pressure in either direction.

You do not need a clear memory, a completed history, or a theory about your own childhood to begin. You can begin with the reaction you notice now.
